The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has condemned the resurgence of killings by suspected herdsmen across the country.

The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Abubakar Mahmud (SAN) stated this at the opening of the 5th Criminal Justice Reform Conference of the association in Asaba, Delta State on Wednesday.

He said the killings and the incidents of kidnapping in the South East and the Delta areas have emphasised the need to intensify efforts at reforming the country’s criminal justice.

He said the challenges, which is now faced by lawyers, have led to the support by several international donor agencies, adding that the bar recently received the sum of $1.8m from the MacArthur Foundation.

He said the funding, which is for a three-year criminal justice advocacy in the country, will assist lawyers across the federation to engender widespread reforms especially the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015 and smooth implementation of the reforms, among others. He said the programme is already ongoing in nine states.
