There was a mild drama weekend at the distribution of poverty alleviation materials to internally displaced persons when a Senator in one of the states affected by Boko Haram in the northeast ordered the DPO in charge of his constituency to jail a poor middle-age man who snatched a sewing machine from one of the beneficiaries.

The Senator, according to report had, as part of his intervention to the welfare of the people in his constituency, distributed cash and tailoring machines to support returning internally displaced persons to pick up the pieces of their lives.

It is not immediately known if the beneficiaries had undergone the requisite
training to acquire tailoring skills before the Senator’s intervention, as such products usually end up being sold in the market.

It was gathered that midway into the distribution of the empowerment materials one of the women beneficiaries had her sewing machine snatched away from her by a hoodlum, who immediately bolted away from the vicinity of the distribution.

The thief was later apprehended by passersby and policemen in the area who dragged him before the senator.

The Senator who was angry by the behaviour of the hoodlum ordered the divisional police officer in charge of the area to jail the thief to serve as detterant to other hoodlums who always take advantage of occasions like this to steal.

It was however gathered that the thief spent the night in police cell but was released the following day.
