2019: Shettima’s candidate, Zulum wins APC governorship ticket in Borno

A former Borno State Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (RRR), Baba Gana Umara Zulum, has emerged the flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Borno State for the 2019 election.

Zulum, a professor and preferred candidate of Governor Kashim Shettima, defeated nine other contestants through a landslide. Ten candidates had earlier stepped down for Zulum.

Announcing the results on Monday at the El-Kanemi Sports Centre, Maiduguri, the Chairman, APC Gubernatorial Primary Election in the state, Barr Ahmed El-Marzuq said Professor Zulum polled 4,432 votes to emerge winner.

He said Zulum was distantly trailed by Idris Mamman Durkwa who scored 115 votes, followed by Kashim Imam who got 20 votes, while Gambo Lawan had 2 vote.

Others such as Mustapha Baba Shehuri, Ahmed Jidda and Atom Maigira all scored one vote each, while three other contestants, Alkali Nasco, Umara Kumalia and Mai Jama’a did not record any vote.

In his acceptance speech, Professor Zulum thanked the delegates for electing him as the party candidate for 2019 election.

He assured delegates that he would try to ensure unity among party members for the progress of APC and the state in general.

Daily Correspondents garthered that a total of 5,012 votes were cast during the primary election.
