Boko Haram insurgents on Thursday night attacked Rann, a town in Kala Balge local government area in Borno state, Nigeria.

The insurgents came into Rann around 8.30pm and destroyed the only healthcare centre in the local government owned by UNICEF.

According to sources within the local government area, the Armed Forces Special Force repelled the insurgents after a fierce gun battle.

Scores of civilians are said to have been killed in the attack, while many sustained injuries.

It will be recalled that the insurgents attacked Rann early March this year when humanitarian workers were killed and three others abducted.
