A supposed blood relative of President Muhammadu Buhari, Amina Zakari, has been appointed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as head of collation centre for the 2019 elections.

INEC had on Thursday inaugurated two committees for the election, naming Zakari, an INEC national commissioner, as the person to head collection centre, which was one of the committees.

The commission’s chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, said during the inauguration that the committee shall be responsible for the national collation centre – the International Conference Centre – from where results of the Presidential election will be announced.

He said, “It will serve as the secretariat for collation of results and venue for briefing of international observers and the media.”

The second committee, on electoral logistics, is chaired by Ahmed Mu’azu, also a national commissioner.

It includes key government institutions and security agencies whose roles according to the chairman are defined in the electoral act.

President Buhari had once appointed Zakari as acting chairman of INEC.

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has constantly maintained that Yakubu cannot be trusted to conduct the 2019 general election while allowing Mrs Zakari, said to be “a direct blood relation” of President Buhari to hold key position in INEC.
