Ahmed Lawan bows to pressure, fires Festus Adedayo as spokesman

The President of the Senate on Thursday bowed to the pressure of the loyalists of President Muhammadu Buhari, who condemned the appointment and sought for the resignation of Festus Adedayo as Special Adviser to the President of the Senate on Media.

Mr Adedayo’s appointment had generated furore, especially on social media, with commenters digging up the journalists acerbic articles he wrote against the ruling party and the president.

But in a statement by Mohammed Isa, Special Assistant to Mr Lawan on Media and Mr Adedayo’s deputy, the Senate President “rescinded” Mr Adedayo’s appointment and wished him success in his future endeavor.

“The office of the President of the Senate has reviewed the appointment of Mr. Festus Adedayo as Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the President of the Senate and decided to rescind its decision on the appointment, and wishes Mr. Adebayo the best in his future endeavours,” said the statement.
