Prominent Nigerians from all walks of life have been felicitating with Christian faithful across the country on the celebration of Easter which commemorates the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, calling for peace and unity as vehicles to economic growth.
Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki called on Christians across the country to use the Easter celebration to pray for sustainable peace and economic growth in the country.
Saraki in his message said it is imperative for all Nigerians to borrow a leaf from the humility and sacrifice exhibited by Christ when he yielded his life for the redemption of mankind.
The Senate President in a statement signed by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, commended the Christian community for the fast and prayers during the Lenten season and urged them to sustain the tempo for the continued peace and unity of the nation.
In the same vein, Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha in his Easter message urged leaders in the country to unite to confront the present economic recession and appealed to all Christians to pray and practice all the virtues the death of Jesus Christ portends, which he noted include love for one another, humility and a life-style that is worthy of emulation.
According to the governor, “what Nigerians and the leaders in particular, are expected to do at the moment, is to unite and find lasting solutions to all the national challenges, because the leaders of today cannot afford to hand over to the next generation a nation where suspicion instead of trust is the stock in trade. Nigerians must work to hand over to the next generation a united and prosperous nation, all the ethnic and religious groups can be proud of.”
On his part, General Overseer of The. Lords Chosen Charismatic Revival Movement, Pastor Lazarus Muoka has urged Christians and entire Nigerians to emulate the virtues of Jesus Christ by manifesting love and peace in all life endeavours.
Muoka who reminded christians that Jesus Christ suffered death because of his love for mankind en joined christians to imbibe all the features of Jesus Christ by showing love to one another.
The salvation preacher who spoke through his Director of press, Pastor Chidi Louis said that living a Christlike life by ensuring purity, love and care for human beings would enhance a spiritual rebirth that would bring restoration in the troubled world.
Speaking on the two day power packed crusade which coincided with the Easter celebration, Muoka said ”It is a common knowledge that the world is going through its worst political and economic hard time which has given rise to despondency in the minds of the citizenry but amidst the insecurity and depression, God inspired this programme to draw our attention to the fact that our success does not lie on our ability but on what God can do.”
Meanwhile, the Kano State Police Command has assured the people of adequate security during the festive period.
According to the Command’s spokesman, DSP Musa Magaji Majia, already, plain clothe and armed police men have been deployed to strategic positions to ensure that enemies of the state would not bank on the festive period to cause chaos and mayhem.
In a related development, the Kaduna State command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has called on residents and members of the public to be vigilant and maintain orderliness during the festive period in order to make the 2016 Easter Celebration hitch-free.
